FAQ
What is Waribiki Alert?
Waribiki (割引) means “discount” in Japanese. Waribiki Alert is an English newsletter tracking Japan travel deals: government travel subsidies, booking-site coupon drops, PayPay cashback and transport sales, each labeled by who can use it.
Can foreign tourists use Japanese travel subsidies?
Many, yes. The Kyushu Recovery Support Discount, Miyagi Drive & Stay, Fukushima and Akita campaigns have no residency limit. Some are residents-only (e.g. Niigata). Coupons are often claimed only on Japanese-language booking sites; Rakuten excludes its English/inbound site from the Kyushu discount.
How much does the Kyushu Recovery Discount save?
50% off (60% in Kumamoto and Kagoshima), capped at ¥20,000–¥35,000 per person per trip depending on nights, transport and prefectures. It runs to Dec 15–25 in most prefectures and to Jan 31, 2027 in Kagoshima, or until budgets run out.
Is there a nationwide travel subsidy (Zenkoku Ryokō Shien) in 2026?
No. In autumn 2026 the only national scheme is the Kyushu discount; everything else is run by prefectures or cities.
Can tourists get PayPay cashback?
Usually not. PayPay signup needs a Japanese mobile number, so city cashback campaigns mainly benefit residents.
How much does Waribiki Alert cost?
The weekly digest is free. A paid tier with same-day alerts and claim guides is coming soon at ¥500/month or ¥4,800/year (about $4/month or $36/year); early members get ¥3,800/year locked in. Join the waitlist.
How do you verify deals?
We check each deal against official prefecture, government or company pages and show the source links and a “last checked” date. Deals change and budgets run out, so always confirm on the official site before booking.
